 PKB Speed Date Information  

          

  • Speed-Dating is a structured meeting of single men and women who are interested in finding someone for a romantic relationship.  This venue allows an individual to meet several people in a safe social setting.   There will be TWO groups based on age.  The first group at 4:00 – 6:00 PM is for ages 40 – 60.  The second group at 6:30 – 8:30 is for ages 25 – 39.  Each group will be capped off at 20 participants.  If there is enough interest, another speed-dating event will be planned in the near future and the excess registrants will be “wait-listed.” 

 

  • How it works: Men and women are rotated to meet each other for a series of short “dates” lasting approximately 8 minutes.  At the end of each interval, the event coordinator will signal the time to move on to the next date.  Each participant carries with them a card listing all of their dates.  If the participant feels positive about the date, he or she puts a mark indicating that personal information can be shared with that person.  At the end of the event, the forms are collected by the organizers.  If there is a match (both people indicate they want to share personal information), then contact information is forwarded to both parties.  Otherwise there is no sharing of contact information.  A list of conversation starters will be provided at each table to alleviate any creative conversation blocks that might occur.

 

  • Matches- To be a match, it must be mutual! The guy and the girl must indicate on each of their scorecards that they are interested in each other!  If one party is interested, but the second party isn’t, then they will not be matched.  We will email you your matches within one week of the event.  If you don’t hear from us after seven days, contact us! 

 

  • Location:  The speed-dating event will be held at the Awakenings Cafe in downtown Parkersburg. 

 

  • Date/Time:  , 4:00 to 6:00 PM for 40 – 60 year olds, and 6:30 – 8:30 PM for 25 to 39 year olds.

 

  • Registration: Please fill out the registration form and send to address listed.  All participants must be registered and paid in advance.  If you want to bring a friend at the last minute, please contact us to see if there is an opening.  Your registration will be confirmed through email.  If all the spots have been filled before your registration is received, you will be given the option of reserving your spot at the next event or having your registration fee refunded.  CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION FORM

 

  • Payment: Price of participation is $10.00 per person.  Please make checks payable to Belpre Church of Christ, and send to Patrick Ward, 3705 Emerson Avenue, Parkersburg, WV 26104.  You can also pay via PayPal

 

 

  • Prior to beginning the dating segment, a 10-minute seminar on “How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk (or Jerkette)” will be given by Dr. Patrick Ward, Marriage and Family Therapist. Information is based on the book “How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk” by John Van Epp  (2008). 

 

  • Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to complete your registration (name tag, table number, coffee, dessert, etc.)! We will start promptly at 4:00/6:30.  This is to ensure that there will be enough time for all rounds of dating to be completed. 

 

  • INFORMATION THAT CAN NOT BE SHARED- any phone numbers, last names, home address, email address, place of employment, Facebook, IM, or any other networking identification. This is for YOUR safety!

 

  • Alcohol will not be available.  However, Awakenings Café will have their delicious coffee, latte, cappuccino, and homemade desserts available for purchase! 

 

  • We will do our best to ensure all slots are filled.  In case they aren’t, we will hold an open round, where 1 person will not have a date for that round. You will meet everyone participating in the event!

 

  Double check the email address you have given us!   

  • All cancellations must be made 7 days in advance.  Deposits will be refunded if cancellations are made in that time frame.  Cancellations made less than 7 days in advance will be forfeited.

 

 

HELPFUL HINTS:

 

  •  Dress appropriately!  Remember, first impressions leave a lasting memory!

  •  You only have 7 minutes to spend with each person.  Think about what is important to you to know about them, and what you want them to know about you!  We will have a list of questions on each table just in case you go blank!  Feel free to use them anytime!

  •  Fresh breath!  Enough said!

  •  RELAX! The majority, if not all, of people at the event have never done this before! Breathe….it will be fun!

  •  Bring a friend! Or two!

  •  Eye contact! Don’t look ahead at who is coming up next…they’ll be there!  Give your undivided attention to this date…it’s only 5 minutes!

  • Be polite, don’t skip anyone.  Please be considerate of everyone’s feelings.

  • Don’t forget to mark your scorecard!  This is the only way we will know who you match with!

  •  Arrive early to enjoy Awakening Café’s scrumptious coffee and homemade desserts, and to calm your nerves!

  •  Do not ask someone for their personal information or give yours out!  This is for your safety!
